Accelerator Update for October 8, 2008 - October 10, 2008

Wednesday Oct 8

The day shift began with the shutdown in progress.

A water expert reported at 10:41 AM that he would be exercising the Antiproton Source (Pbar) 95 LCW pumps.

Operators reported at 3:08 PM that they had searched and secured the Main Injector (MI) enclosure MI-31, the Pbar rings, and the Prevault area.

FESS personnel reported at 3:43 PM that they had set up a portable sump pump at Tevatron (TeV) sector E3. The E3 sump pump had been repaired today, but was left off because the sealant used for to connect the new discharge pipe required 24 hours to cure.

A water expert reported at 4:48 PM that the TeV LCW and pond water systems were all operating in their normal mode except for pond pumps at sectors A1 and F4. The MI LCW system had also resumed normal operations. A water expert reported at 5:37 PM that he had turned off all the pond water pumps for the evening.

Operations put the TeV separators into conditioning mode at 10:18 PM.

Thursday Oct 9

The midnight shift began with the shutdown in progress.

Operations turned off the TeV separators at 6:37 AM.

A controls expert reported at 9:25 AM that he was taking down the TeV F Front End for a couple of minutes to add some diagnostics.

Operators reported at 12:28 PM that they had searched and secured the MI-10 and MI-60 enclosures.

A water expert reported at 12:45 PM that he would be exercising the Pbar 95 LCW pumps.

Operators reported at 2:58 PM that they had searched and secured the TeV F-sector.

Operators reported at 3:27 PM that they had searched and secured the TeV transfer hall.

Operators reported at 6:53 PM that they had searched and secured MI-31 for Pelletron testing. This testing took about 20 minutes. After the test, Pelletron experts intentionally dropped the interlocks.

An expert reported at 7:21 PM that they had completed filling the Booster 95 LCW system.

Operators reported at 9:25 PM that they had successfully completed a MI hipot.

Interlock system experts reported at 10 PM that they had completed their safety system tests of the Accumulator, the Pbar Debuncher, and the transport line.

At 10:12 PM, Operations reported a problem with a firing circuit for the MI-20 Lower power supply. Experts were called in.

Friday Oct 10

The midnight shift began with the shutdown in progress.

Operators reported at 4:25 AM that they had searched and secured the Booster tunnel.

CUB experts reported at 6:30 AM that they were preparing for the scheduled power outage by turning off the LCW pumps for the Tevatron and MI.

The scheduled Master Substation power outage began at 6:59 AM. The power came back on at 7:11 AM.

CUB experts reported at 8:02 AM that they were starting back up.

The Plans for Friday and the Weekend

The plans for today are to finish up any last minute work in the accelerators and begin startup. The TeV cryo system should be cold by late this evening. Linac should begin sending beam later this afternoon.
