WALL OF GALAXIES TRAVERSING THE HUBBLE DEEP FIELD

Schematic view of a wall of galaxies (large central oval) pierced by lines of sight to the Hubble Deep Field (chevron shape) and two quasars (bright dots at top right). Galaxies inside the wall are seen directly inside the Hubble Deep Field area, while the wall intercepts light from the distant quasars. The wall of galaxies is 4 billion light years away, and at least 25 billion light years across. The findings were presented to the American Astronomical Society meeting in Atlanta, GA onJanuary 13, 2000. PHOTO CREDIT: Fermilab.
