New DOE Counterintelligence Display Featured on WH6E | ||

Recent security issues at other DOE labs and an increase in the national
terrorist threat level serve to remind us of the importance of the
government's intelligence and counterintelligence efforts.
To further Fermilab employees and visitors' awareness and
understanding of DOE's counterintelligence work, a display is present,
through January, in the DOE Fermi Area Office (WH6E). In addition
to the display there are handouts available covering the topics of:
"Espionage and Foreign Travel"; "Elicitation, More than
Just a Conversation..."; "The Economic Espionage Act of 1996";
"A Pocket Guide to Counterintelligence"; "2003 Technology Collection
Trends in the
U.S. Defense Industry."
If, as a result of seeing the display and reviewing the
handouts, you should have any questions please contact Bruce Chrisman,

From the New York Times, January 9, 2004 Subatomic Tracking Finds Clues to the Unseen Universe By James Glanz An experiment that tracks subtle motions of subatomic particles called muons has found tantalizing evidence for a vast shadow universe of normally unseen matter existing side by side with ours, scientists at the Brookhaven National Laboratory said yesterday.
The significance of the findings has been thrown into doubt by a series of mathematical errors and theoretical disagreements by physicists around the world who have been weighing the evidence for what would, if correct, rank as one of the greatest discoveries in science.

Change in Security Level On Friday, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security lowered the national threat level from High to an Elevated risk of terrorist attack - or from Code Orange to Code Yellow. The Department of Energy has requested that Fermilab change its security measures accordingly, from SECON 2 to modified SECON 3. Pedestrians and bicyclists may once again enter the site without a visitor's pass. All Fermilab buildings remain closed to the public, except for the Leon Lederman Science Education Center. The public may not drive on site without obtaining a visitor's pass. read more |

January 7 - January 9 - No major problems, good steady running - Shot #3132 set a new single-store integrated luminosity of 2.5 pb-1. - Operations established 1 store during the last forty-eight hours. They delivered approximately forty two hours and thirty minutes of luminosity to the experiments.
