Girl Scouts Spend a Saturday Learning About Science | ||

Last Saturday, over 500 Girl Scouts from Will, McHenry, Kane and Kendall
counties gathered at Joliet Junior College to learn about science,
math and law enforcement. Thirty-six volunteers, nine of which
were from Fermilab, helped teach Brownie, Junior and Cadette Girl Scouts
about math and science through hands-on activities.
"Including all of the girls, chaperones and volunteers, we had over 850 people," said Anne Lucietto, an engineer in FESS/Ops-Engineering and technical volunteer coordinator for the event. "Our volunteers were fantastic and I've heard nothing but good things from the girls."
Girl Scouts in grades 1-9 earned Try-Its, badges,
and special interest patches by attending different activities.
The Girl Scouts also participated in several community service projects;
younger girls made paper butterflies destined for U.S. soldiers abroad
and older girls assisted with the event.

And Illinois is not immune from dangerous weather, WGN-TV meteorologist Tom Skilling reminded the crowd that packed Fermilab's Ramsey Auditorium on Saturday, as he talked about the 1967 Oak Lawn tornado and 1990 Plainfield tornado.
"You live in fear in this business when that sort of outbreak will occur
again," Skilling said. This is the 24th year that Skilling has sponsored
his tornado and severe storm seminar.

We had 5 schools and a 6-5 record. It would have been better if Stanford, our resident #1 seed, hadn't lost so early. |
