Oshinowo Elected to Coordinate Metrology Systems Conference Executive Committee Babatunde O'Sheg Oshinowo of PPD's Alignment and Metrology group will serve on the executive committee of the 2005 Coordinate Metrology Systems Conference in Austin, Texas. Elected by about 400 attendees at this year's conference in San Jose, California, Oshinowo will organize seminars for the upcoming CMSC.
"Fermilab uses all metrological devices except scanning devices, which measure 3D objects instead of discrete points," said Oshinowo, who oversaw the alignment of Fermilab's NuTeV, DZero Detector, Recycler Ring, and MiniBooNE and is currently managing the alignment of the Booster Accelerator, Recycler Electron Cooling and BTeV Detector.
"Basically, the conference is a show-and-tell of measuring devices and methods," Oshinowo said. "It was
quite a privilege to be nominated and elected by my peers." He is also a member of the organizing committee
for the 8th International Workshop on Accelerator Alignment at CERN.

Some of the highlights for this shutdown are installation of the electron cooling apparatus into the Recycler, final installation of the NuMI beam line, and replacement of the focusing horn for MiniBooNE. The total accelerator effort requires about 160 people, including 124 mechanical technicians. Additional work will be done at the experiments. The detailed scheduling of people, space, and hardware is an intricate and demanding task. The planning for this shutdown has been going on for the last year, but was especially intense for the last two months. People will still need to react as surprises inevitably occur over the course of the shutdown.
I want to reinforce Roger Dixon's message delivered last week: "The most important thing is
having a very safe and effective shutdown. We don't want any of you getting hurt."

August 20 - August 23 - During this 72-hour period Operations established two stores that contributed approximately 24 hours of beam to the experiments - TeV experts reported that the ground fault disappeared - Operations established store 3744 on Saturday night and store 3745 on Sunday afternoon - Nearly all of the machines conducted studies - The TeV turned off at 4:00 a.m. - Fermilab began its 13-week shutdown at 7:00 a.m.

Bowlers Wanted for the 2004-2005 Bowling Season The Fermilab Wednesday Night Bowling League is looking for a few new bowlers this year. This is a sanctioned mixed league with a combination of Fermilab and NICOR employees. The league bowls at the Bowling Green Sports Center in West Chicago on Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. The cost is $13.00 per week, and the season starts on September 8 and ends on March 30. more information
