Applications being accepted for Wilson Fellowship
The Wilson Fellowship at Fermilab seeks applications from Ph.D. physicists of exceptional talent with at least two years of postdoctoral experience. The fellowship is awarded on a competitive basis and is intended to support strong, assistant professor-level physicists early in their careers. Accelerate to a Healthy Lifestyle update
30 minutes of exercise, three days a week, is all it takes to participate in the Accelerate to a Healthy Lifestyle program at Fermilab. We are entering our final four weeks of the program. We encourage current participants to continue their efforts, and we remind participants that anyone can retroactively log hours. The In the Footsteps of Django - Fermilab Arts Series - Oct. 27 at 8 p.m.
In The Footsteps Of Django brings together the best of the new Gypsy Jazz masters of Europe —LULO REINHARDT, a third generation German master, whose group the Latin Swing Project combines Gypsy Jazz with Latin rhythms. Heartland Blood Drive
Fermilab will host a walk-in only Heartland Blood Drive October 8 & 9 8am-2pm in the WH ground floor training room. Anyone who donated on Tuesday, Aug.14 will not be able to donate Monday, Oct. 8 but may on Tuesday, Oct. 9. DRC appointments can be reserved by contacting Diana x3771. Unscheduled DRC's may be available by checking with HBC staff. Appointments will help collect the most units possible for those in need. Donors will receive a special edition t-shirt. The August drive collected 73 life saving pints of blood. Your donation can save 3 lives. Flu shots won't defer donors, please give.

Mac users: Upcoming changes to VPN client software.
An upgrade to new VPN hardware (VPN is what you use to connect to the Fermilab network from offsite.) is expected to occur in early October. In order for your VPN client software on your computer to work with the new hardware, a new version of the client software is required. All centrally managed Mac OSX laptops that are communicating correctly with Casper have been updated with the correct version. October School's Day Out
School's out Day Camp on Oct. 5 and Oct. 8: childcare for school age children (7-12 years) will be offered at Kuhn Barn, lower level, from 7:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Cost is $25.00 per day/per camper. Enrollment will be accepted until noon on Friday, Sept. 28. Space is limited and will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. The program will be cancelled if less than 8 register. Campers will need to bring a lunch. A refrigerator and microwave are available. Beverage at lunch, morning and afternoon snack will be provided. Chess club starting new season
The Fermilab Chess club is open to all employees and visitors and meets during the year, depending on demand, for casual games. During the academic year we also participate in evening matches sponsored by the Chicago Industrial Chess League. Half of these matches are played at Fermilab and the other half are played at nearby companies and organizations, such as Lucent Technology and Argonne National Laboratory. Discussion of the views of Sam Harris on religion
The Bible Exploration for Lunch League will discuss objections of popular writer and lecturer Sam Harris toward the Bible and religion, using excerpts from his own recorded presentations, and will examine his outlook and approach. Background, methods, consistency, and terminology will be reviewed to better understand his position and claims. The meetings are planned for four Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 1pm beginning October 2, in the Quarium on the southwest corner of the 8th floor of Wilson Hall. Martial Arts Classes
Kyuki-Do is a Korean martial art similar to Taekwondo. The Next Fermi Kyuki-Do Martial Arts session begins on September 24. I will teach you how to kick, punch, block, throw and fall, and basic self defense. Classes are held for six weeks on Monday and Wednesdays from 5 - 6 pm at the Recreation Facility in the Village. You need to register for the class through the Recreation Office. The cost is $55.00. You do not need a gym membership to join this class. I will supply a free uniform to students who have never participated in martial arts before. This class is limited to ten students.
