Windows 8 at Fermilab
Several manufacturers are selling computers with Windows 8 (recently released from Microsoft) installed. To ensure new operating systems work well within our environment, Fermilab has strict guidelines for releasing new operating systems for use on Fermilab-owned computers. The Core Computing Division, with members of other divisions and sections, will be evaluating and testing Windows 8 for use at Fermilab. This process, which involves testing with our applications and support structure, will be prioritized so that Windows 8 may be certified and in use at Fermilab as soon as possible. Until then, Windows 8 should not be installed on Fermilab-owned equipment or used in the FERMI domain.
