The meeting will also be available on streaming video and on Fermilab closed circuit channel 9. Employees and users will be able to watch the All-Hands meeting by turning to channel 9 from any Fermilab channel 13 receiver. |

Message to the Fermilab Community
Under Mike Witherell's leadership, Fermilab has come through challenging times to emerge in a very strong position. The Tevatron is performing better than ever, and for the next few years, Fermilab will lead the world at the energy frontier. The laboratory is poised for a future that includes the premier experiment in flavor physics, potentially the premier program in neutrino physics, and strong participation in the LHC as it takes over the lead at the energy frontier. If our efforts are successful, our future may also include a new global facility at the energy frontier to complement the Large Hadron Collider. Mike and everyone at Fermilab should be proud of these achievements.

A Statement From Mike Witherell Pier Oddone is an excellent choice to be the next director. His experience as a particle physicist, division head, and deputy director at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory has prepared him well to lead Fermilab. He has
Physicists all over the world are anticipating that important new physics will come out of Fermilab over the next few years. Results from CDF, D0, MiniBooNE, MINOS, CDMS, Auger, Sloan, and MIPP are going to be filling the scientific journals. Years of effort building and improving accelerators and detectors have laid the foundation for this rich scientific harvest. The people of Fermilab have a lot to be proud of. At the same time, the laboratory must and will keep moving ahead. The field of particle physics is looking to Fermilab to take the lead in designing and constructing even more impressive instruments for studying the fundamental nature of matter, space, and time. Great opportunities and enormous challenges lie ahead for Pier and for everyone who works here. We are very fortunate that Pier will be leading Fermilab through the important and difficult tasks ahead. All of us who have worked closely with him are impressed by his unerring good judgment. We also enjoy his spirit and sense of humor.
I look forward to working with Pier over the next several months to ensure a seamless transition. His wife Barbara will be a great asset to the laboratory as well. Please join me in welcoming Pier and Barbara Oddone to Fermilab.

Batavia, Ill.-Officials of Universities Research Association, the consortium of
universities that operates the Department of Energy's Fermi National Accelerator
Laboratory, today (November 19) announced the appointment of Piermaria Oddone as
Fermilab's fifth director. Acting on the recommendation of its Board of Overseers
and with the approval of Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham, URA's Board of
Trustees appointed Oddone to succeed Fermilab's current director, Michael Witherell,
on July 1, 2005. Witherell announced in October 2003 that he would serve as
Fermilab director through June 2005.
URA President Frederick M. Bernthal announced the appointment of Oddone, a physicist who is currently deputy director of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley, California, where he is responsible for scientific programs and oversees major laboratory initiatives and strategic planning.

A Message from URA President Fred Bernthal I am delighted to announce the appointment of Piermaria Oddone as Fermilab's next director. Pier's background as an outstanding particle physicist, his
Pier's appointment is the culmination of a five-month search by an outstanding committee under the leadership of Dr. Neal Lane of Rice University. The committee worked extraordinarily well together and was thoughtful and thorough in its work. From its many communications with people at Fermilab and around the world, the committee developed a list of over 60 candidates. Interviews, discussions and other input narrowed the list, and on September 21 the committee submitted its unanimous recommendations to the Fermilab Board of Overseers. The Overseers then interviewed top candidates and made their recommendation to the URA Trustees. At their regular meeting November 3 in Washington, the URA Board of Trustees met with Pier Oddone and recommended to the Secretary of Energy that he be appointed the next director of Fermilab. Pier met with Secretary Abraham early last week.
