Physics Analysis Hardware

Project WBS Element Definition

The element includes effort, hardware and software required for the planning, specification, procurement and commissioning the offline analysis systems. These include the computers hosting the centrally managed disk pools for code development, application serving, and analysis data storage. These also include centrally managed batch computing facilities.

This element also includes the development of a computing model for the physicists desktop so that the exchange of information and tasks between the desktop and server machines is efficient and appropriate

Project Scope and Deliverables

• Specification for analysis hardware and network connectivity.
• Proper understanding of the data formats and data flow as part of the analysis process with particular attention to disk storage requirements.
• Understanding of the input and output of data to the HSM/robotics/shelf storage.
• Ensure availability of development and test environments.
• Provide appropriate documentation for each of the above elements.
• Speciufy availability requirements and design an appropriate system to achieve this.
• Specify an appropriate backup facility.
