H- Source
The H- Source is the first part of the Preaccelerator. It consists of two separate sources called I minus and H minus. This is where the particle beam begins. Only one of these accelerators is used at a time. The other is kept in reserve. Each Preacc consists of the source housed in an electrically charged dome. The source converts hydrogen gas to ionized hydrogen gas (H-). The second part is a transfer line called the 750 KeV line (referring to the transported beam’s kinetic energy) that leads to LINAC.
