The Joint Task Force Initiative Postdoctoral Fellowship

The JTFI Postdoctoral Fellowship program developed by Fermilab and the University of Chicago supports new and innovative research in particle physics by increasing the diversity of early-career researchers who demonstrate academic leadership and resilience in the face of adversity.

Overview

The JTFI Postdoctoral Fellowship seeks outstanding candidates who are underrepresented in STEM, such as women, Black, American Indian, Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander, and Latinx researchers in scientific, engineering and computing disciplines. The fellowship is an opportunity for early-career researchers to be immersed in a leading-edge research and development environment through collaboration with experienced, deeply knowledgable and often world-renowned scientists and engineers. The fellow can choose to join one of the many existing research groups at Fermilab or initiate a new research track aligned with Fermilab's mission.

Each year, a JTFI Postdoctoral Fellow will be selected by a Fermilab search committee. The selected fellow will receive full support from the University of Chicago to carry out their research at Fermilab. The fellowship package includes:

  • Up to five years of full financial support, including a competitive salary with full employment benefits.
  • A $2,500 travel stipend from the University of Chicago to carry out their research at Fermilab.

The fellow will also be supported through Fermilab mentor programs and by laboratory resource groups tasked with sharing knowledge, strengthening professional networks, and assuring equity and inclusion for each member of the lab community.
